Dr. Imane Kendili, a graduate in psychiatry from Hassan II University and the Ibn Rochd University Hospital in Casablanca, has established herself as a prominent figure in psychiatry, addiction medicine, and sexology. After specializing in addiction treatment at the Brugmann University Hospital and the Free University of Brussels, she further honed her expertise with advanced training in Switzerland and the United States, including at Harvard Medical School, where she earned triple certification in behavioral addiction in 2015.
A public health expert, Dr. Kendili focuses part of her work on Sub-Saharan Africa while advising internationalorganizations in Africa and the Middle East on critical issues such as climate change and health, food security, and womenand children’s health. Her efforts are part of a broader commitment to Africa and the political discourse on Africansovereignty.
As a dedicated member of various associations and scientific societies, she has been a member of the American Societyof Addiction Medicine (ASAM) since 2011, co-founder and secretary general of the Moroccan Association of Sexual Health(AMUSS) since 2009, and founder of the Moroccan Federation for Sleep and Vigilance. She is also a signatory of theInternational Charter for Risk Reduction in Health, advocating for its integration into public policies.
In 2015, she led the psychiatry and psychotherapy unit at Sheikh Khalifa Ibn Zaid Hospital in Casablanca. A year later, shefounded the Casablanca Psychiatric Center, a multidisciplinary center dedicated to mental health. By 2017, she launchedthe Casablanca Care Center, an innovative facility addressing all forms of addiction with multidisciplinary teams. InOctober 2023, she created and now heads the Casablanca Addictology Center, a specialized hospital unit for addictionand associated pathologies within Akditalife Clinic, part of the Akdital Group.
In 2024, Dr. Kendili co-produced the film The Escapees of Tindouf, reflecting her commitment to national causes andhuman rights by bringing vital narratives to the global stage.
Dr. Kendili is also a prolific author. Her first book, Drugs Explained to My Children (2019), earned her the Divine Academyof Arts and Letters Prize in Paris. During the pandemic, she published Coronavirus, the End of a World (2020) and Covid-19: The White Paper (2021). In 2022, she received the Moroccan Ministry of Health’s Research and Innovation Prize for herbook Cannabis: What Science Says, translated into Arabic and English. In 2023, she co-edited a collective work on healthsovereignty in Africa and published Pandemic: Moroccan Expertise, highlighting Morocco’s pivotal role in crisismanagement.
As the head of the NGO African Global Health since 2022, Dr. Kendili has played a crucial role in advancing public health at the continental level. Under her leadership, the organization co-organized with the Moroccan Ministry of Health the first African Conference on Health Risk Reduction in Marrakech in November 2022, attracting over 3,000 international participants. In September 2023, she reached a new milestone by launching the first South-South conference on Water, Environment, and Food Security, gathering 5,000 participants worldwide. In 2024, she was honored with the Initiative of the Year Award in Zambia at an event in London.
In December 2024, Dr. Kendili received a prestigious award from the Arab Union of Culture, recognizing her contributions to mental health, scientific research, and cultural promotion. This distinction added to her acknowledgment in Kigali, where she was honored among Africa’s 100 Most Influential People for her impact on public health, addiction medicine, and African sovereignty issues.
As the patron of the NGO Words and Women’s Wounds since 2024, she actively supports the fight against violence against women in Africa, embodying her commitment to human rights and gender equality.
In 2025, Dr. Kendili participated in the World Economic Forum in Davos, reinforcing her commitment to global health and diplomacy. As President of African Global Health, she was a key speaker at the annual international roundtable of the Diplomatic Courier – DAVOS DIALOGUES, titled “Searching for Common Ground.” This high-level roundtable, organized in collaboration with the House of Kosovo, the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), and the Learning Economy Foundation, brought together expert leaders to explore strategies fostering shared political, social, and economic goals. Through her intervention, Dr. Kendili contributed to discussions on creating favorable environments for collaboration, emphasizing Africa’s role in shaping sustainable global health policies.
